Sunila Chotai

(Chelsea College, BPharm, 1981; MSc Pharmacy, 1985)

Passionate pharmacist and active volunteer within her community.

Chelsea College alumna, Sunila Chotai, known as Suni by her loved ones, passed away in May 2022.

Ugandan-born but raised in Essex, Suni studied Pharmacy as an undergraduate at Chelsea College and later furthered her education by undertaking a master’s in the same subject in 1984.

In 1983, Suni joined the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and was one of the earliest community services pharmacists between 1984–88 and 1997–2003. After that, she became a pharmacy inspector for the Commission for Social Care and the Care Quality Commission until 2017. Suni had hospital positions at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and Eastbourne District Hospital and worked for the Sussex Community NHS Trust until her retirement.

Outside of her pharmaceutical duties, she volunteered for the Brighton Hindu Temple and led the Brighton Hindu Women’s Group. A staple within her community, Suni helped out in the Brighton Street Kitchen. Her hobbies included dancing, gardening and travelling.

She was devoted to her children, Rikesh, who is currently studying Medicine at King’s, and Raakhi. She met her husband, Bharat Chotai (Chelsea College, BPharm, 1979), while studying at Chelsea College. Bharat is the director of Kamsons Pharmacy, a chain of 80 pharmacies across England.
