Professor Peter Kopelman

Leading researcher in diabetes and obesity, Professor Peter Kopelman (Preclinical Medicine, 1974), has died following a battle with leukaemia.

Between 2008 and 2015, Professor Kopelman was Principal of St George’s, University of London, where he was essential in forming a partnership with the University of Nicosia (Cyprus). As a result of this collaboration, the first medical school in Cyprus was founded.

Additionally, Professor Kopelman’s research into diabetes and obesity was foundational for the improvement of patient care services in the UK. Peter also played an integral role in policymaking in the NHS; he was Chair and a member of many UK health and educational boards.

Peter is survived by his wife Sue and their family.
