It is with immense sadness that we share the news that Professor Alexander Türk has passed away.
A member of The Dickson Poon School of Law faculty for almost three decades, Alex joined King’s in 1996 and was promoted to Professor in 2010.
An illustrious academic career
Over his many years with us, Alex held several leadership positions within the Law School, including stints as Vice Dean (International) and as the Interim Executive Dean.
Alex was a longstanding member and regular contributor to the Centre of European Law, serving as its Assistant Director. He also held Visiting Professor positions at Georgetown University Pepperdine University, and the University of Iowa.
Formidable expertise
Alex studied Law and History at the University of Augsburg, Germany, obtained an LLM in European Law at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, followed this with a PhD at the University of London.
He published extensively on the law of the European Union but also held keen interests in comparative constitutional law and the law of the United States. He shared his formidable expertise with the House of Commons; leading international law firms; the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office; and the European Institute of Public Administration.
Thanks to Alex’s hard work, determination and invaluable leadership, The Dickson Poon School of Law was able to build upon its strong tradition as a global law school. Alex established key partnerships with prestigious institutions across the world. His remarkable blend of intelligence, curiosity and warmth made him the ideal ambassador for the Law School.
A wealth of knowledge
Alex was renowned for his kindness and professionalism, and he was revered by staff and students alike. His kind-heartedness, patience and wealth of knowledge were deeply valued by his colleagues and the wider community at King’s.
Alex’s contributions to our community are immeasurable and the school would not be what it is today without him. He will be missed.
